Best song on the record. First time I heard it, I bawled. Then, I dried my tears, grabbed my wallet and scored a copy of the CD. Popped it into player, cranked the volume on this song, and began to bawl some more. "Damnation" is like a soft blanket, warm and fresh out of the dryer. Perfect for rainy days when you're feeling saddened by the world and just need to cry.

Strongly agree! There are many other great Opeth mellow songs but this one is in a different level. It's been more than a decade since the first time I heard this song as well as watched this live performance and the feeling is still there.

It’s criminal how unexcited the crows seemed for damnation. That album is the sole reason i ever even tried listening to Opeth and I’m obsessed now
I found about them around 2017 because of Damnation. I would never expect to find out they were a death metal band and now it's one of my favorite genres of music because of them.
Best drummer they ever had.

This song and Opeth are the perfect response to the millions of comments I consistently see when I watch "classic" song videos on You Tube..you know the deal.. folks say stuff like "Oh music was much better way back when" etc etc.."today's stuff is mush".."zero talent" etc etc" This hauntingly, beautiful song is such a lesson in that if you keep an open mind you will find moments of musical bliss even greater at times then those classics..I'm blessed to have applied the above to my love of Opeth and their beautiful, beautiful music

This DVD reminds me when i was younger, i used to play it while i was Reading Drácula from Bram Stocker and this song link me into that atmosphere so strong. Weird, but i love it.
Funny you mention gothic fiction and Opeth. When this album came out I was reading Anne Rice. I remember because I ended up using the lyrical booklet as a bookmark. Rice isn't quite on Stoker's level but it was a nice match regardless.
